RTSA gives Mazhandu bus services 7 days ultimatum

Mazhandu 1The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has given Mazhandu bus services a seven days ultimatum to show cause why it road service license should not be revoked or suspended for failure to comply with conditions subject to which it was granted.

This follows Monday’s accident in which a Mazhandu bus was involved resulting in the death of seven people.

RTSA Senior Public Relations Manager Fredrick Mubanga says RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko has written to the bus company’s Managing Director that failure to show cause within seven days why the road service license should not be revoked or suspended will leave the agency with no option, but to suspend or revoke the license.

Mr. Mubanga says the agency is concerned that the record of operation for Mazhandu Bus Services has increasingly deteriorated from 2013 with a number of its buses being involved in accidents in which lives have been lost.

He says RTSA has a responsibility of ensuring the safety of all road users and will in this regard not hesitate to invoke its powers under section 108 of the Act either to suspend or to revoke the Road Service License of any operator that has a bad road safety record.
