EFZ deplores continued violence

Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Executive Director Pukuta Mwanza has expressed concern that a week after getting an assurance from political parties that they will refrain from acts of violence, the ruling PF and opposition UPND have clashed in Kasama.

Reverend Mwanza who was one of the Facilitators of the Indaba held in Lusaka last week laments that the two politicPukuta Mal parties have continued to engage in political violence.

He has since discouraged political parties against buying cadres beers whenever they are holding meetings or rallies.

Reverend Mwanza notes that this is a recipe for political violence.

He adds that political parties should not hesitate to expel those of their members found wanting as way of curbing violence.

And the Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has urged political parties to adhere to the resolutions of the recently signed peace pact on political violence.

JCTR Executive Director Leonard Chiti says the resolutions will help provide a conducive environment for peaceful elections.

Father Chiti says it is thus his organization’s hope that all political parties will stick to what they agreed upon during the interparty meeting.

He says it would be a waste of time to have signed the peace pact and do the contrary.
