Mutati opposes ban on maize exports

Former Commerce Minister Felix Mutati says the ban on maize exports is not the solution to the current shortage of mealie meal in the Country.

Mr. Mutati says the solution to the shortage lies in addressing the bottlenecks in the flow of maize from the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) to millers.

He says the primary issue is for government to find out what is slowing down the supply of maize to the millers.

In an interview with QFM, Mr. Mutati says the ban on maize exports is therefore a secondary issue, adding that such a ban will lead to smuggling.

He has advised that going forward there is need for the Country to have a dependable and predictable system for the Agriculture sector.
