Archbishop of Canterbury counsels Zambian politicians

ArchibishoP Chama and WelbyThe World leader of the Anglican Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has urged political leaders in Zambia to preach peace ahead of the August 11 elections.

Speaking on arrival at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport this afternoon, Archbishop Welby who is in the country for the 16th meeting of the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) says Zambia has been a role model to most African countries in conducting effective and clean elections.

Archbishop Welby has since encouraged the country to continue with the same spirit as most countries on the continent looked up to Zambia for inspiration.

He has however, advised Zambians that the transparency of the elections the country has held should not be taken for granted.

Archbishop Welby was received by the Archbishop and Primate of the Church of the province of Central Africa Albert Chama and Energy Minister Dora Siliya.

And welcoming the Archbishop, Energy Minister Dora Siliya says government regards the church as a critical stakeholder which plays a vital role in promoting peace and unity in the country.

Ms. Siliya says government will ensure that the country continues to enjoy peace even after the elections.
