Youth Leaders from different political parties in Southern Province have called for speedy implementation of resolutions made by political leaders to curb political violence and address it’s root causes.

Young leaders from United Party for National Development (UPND), Patriotic Front, Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) and Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) in Mazabuka District have called on their leaders to effectively implement the resolutions from the peace talks.

In welcoming the resolutions by political leaders, Youth Leaders who met at the continued District Meeting organised by the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) at Royal Loricia Lodge in Mazabuka have called for political parties to realign the role of political Youth Wings play in advancing youth leadership as opposed to using young people as agents of political violence.

Mazabuka youth leaders have said resolutions by leaders must be backed up by concrete action that recognizes the youth as key to the country’s leadership and development hence the need to realign the roles of Youth Wings in political parties.

Participants at the two – day DFID – funded District meeting that closed last evening, have said key resolutions such as the fair enforcement of the Public Order Act and banning of military regalia require speedy implementation if Zambia is to hold peaceful elections.

The 25 youth leaders also called on Republican President Edgar Lungu to also take leadership and meet youth leaders from all political parties and dialogue over various concerns on the country’s governance and youth participation in decision making.

Speaking at the same function, YALI President Andrew Nthewewe says time has come for Zambia to put political violence behind them and structures from political parties must provide leadership to its ordinary members.

He says the youth must begin to coexist and show they can conduct peaceful campaigns in the same area without incidences of violence.
