Lungu extols freedom fighters

President Edgar Lungu arrives in Muchinga

President Edgar Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has extolled the heroes and heroines of the country’s independence struggle and has called on all Zambians to a serious introspection on the benefits of the peace and unity Dr. Kenneth Kaunda’s generation bequeathed on the nation.

Speaking during the commemorate of the 50th Golden Jubilee anniversary of Kenneth Kaunda Secondary School in Chinsali in Muchinga Province, President Lungu has also made an impassionate call for non-violence ahead of the August 11 general election.

The Head of State has appealed to all progressive minds to take responsibility and safeguard peace by denouncing any all acts of violence being perpetrated by individuals with selfish motives at the expense of the moral majority.

He has emphasized that the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto is a powerful theme that leaders must use to unite the people across its diverse persuasions.

He says the people’s tribe is Zambian hence the onus is on all of leaders to exercise tolerance and promote love as Jesus spoke in Mathew 22: 37-39, a verse the first Republican President Dr. Kaunda cherishes.

The President has emphasized the power of education as a equalizer and best instrument for social mobility.

President Lungu has stressed that the massive infrastructure development programme the PF government has embarked on since 2011 is only comparable to President Kaunda’s post independence programme to build schools and other physical infrastructure that developed the country.

The President has committed to rehabilitating the school and has also donated a school bus to fulfill late President Michael Sata’s promise.

This is contained in a statement made available to QFM News by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda.
