University of Zambia (UNZA) Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Enala Mwase has expressed concern that despite the institution churning out graduates, employment opportunities in the country have become scarce.

Professor Mwase said this during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with British American Tobacco Zambia and the Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) aimed at preparing UNZA students for the labour market and facilitating their contribution to the economy.

She recalls that in the old days, industries were waiting for students to complete their studies and employ them which is not the case now.

Professor Mwase says the MoU will no doubt add value to students’ chances of being employed in the near future.

Speaking earlier, Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZACCI) Chief Executive Officer Prisca Chikwashi says building capacity in students requires concerted efforts.

And British American Tobacco Zambia Managing Director Godfrey Machanzi says the initiative will expose students to practical working environments that help them in the labour market.
