CSPR counsels teaching council

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has advised the Teaching Council to conduct wide consultation with stakeholders in the process of formulating the code of ethics for teachers if the country is to realize the benefit of having an effective teachers’ ethics board.

CSPR Information and Communications Officer Maxson Nkhoma says it is wrong for the teaching council to develop the code of ethics for teachers without involvement of critical stakeholders such parents, school going children, members of the general public and the teachers unions.

Mr. Nkhoma says while his organization has welcomed the creation of the code of ethics for teachers, it is concerned and worried that without the input of other stakeholders, the code of ethics may not be well balanced in its content as it has not considered the views of other stakeholders.

He has since encouraged the teaching council to take advantage of the existing impetus among Zambians in contributing to reforms in the education sector and extend a hand of consultation to them.

And Mr. Nkhoma has called on the teaching council to mainstream the performance based appraisal system which was announced by President Edgar Lungu last year to help enhance the performance of teachers in the Country.
