YALI urges MPs to use present opportunity to amend POA

Members of Parliament have been urged to not let the opportunity that the next sitting of Parliament provides to amend the Public Order Act pass them by (POA).

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) YALI is dismayed that MPs failed to table amendments to POA despite knowing the necessity of having this legislation amended before this year’s general elections.

YALI governance advisor Isaac Mwanza says it is disappointing that the ruling PF that was supposed to support the amendments held back from voting for the private member’s bill to amend the Act.

Mr. Mwanza says YALI hopes that MPs will this time around engage in mature debates and ensure that the POA is amended before Parliament is dissolved.
