Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has disclosed that government officials came from Zimbabwe to plead with the Zambian government over the arresting of 21 fishermen last weekend.

Mr. Kanyama says it is too late because the 21 fishermen were already taken to court and were charged yesterday in Siavonga Magistrate Court for illegal fishing and entering into the country without proper documentation.

He says the Zambian government last year pleaded with the Zimbabwean Government to release the eight fishermen who were arrested in that country for illegal fishing but that the government refused and the eighty fishermen are currently serving jail sentences in Zimbabwe.

Mr. Kanyama says the law will be followed even here in Zambia.
