UPND cadres at Lusaka Central Police

Police in Lusaka have again arrested UPND Vice President for Administration Geoffrey Mwamba and slapped him with a charge of proposing violence or breaches of the law of assembly contrary to section 91 (I) (a) and (b) of the Penal Code.

This follows a complaint filed by PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya that Mr Mwamba had threatened to go for the throat of President Edgar Lungu.

Mr.Mwamba was picked up from his Kabulonga residence in Lusaka at about 12hrs after he failed to show up at Lusaka Central Police following a call out that was earlier issued to him.

And Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda has told journalists That Mr. Mwamba’s arrest is in connection with the statement he made on 2nd March, 2016 proposing to cause death to Republican President Edgar Lungu by saying he would go for his throat.

Ms Munganga says Mr. Mwamba is currently in police custody at Lusaka Central Police which has been besieged by scores of UPND supporters.

Meanwhile President Edgar Lungu has warned that Police will arrest anyone disturbing the peace of the country whether from the ruling party or the opposition.

Speaking when he addressed residents of Itezhi tezhi this afternoon, President Lungu says he is not intimidating anyone by issuing such a warning.

He says once arrested those disturbing the country’s peace will suffer alone and not with their political parties thus the need to maintain peace.

And President Lungu says people who want to support the opposition are free to do so and equally those who want to support the ruling party are also free.
