Lungu commissions 120 MW Itezhi tezhi power station

COMMISSIONING OF ITEZHI TEZHI HYDRO POWER STATIONPresident Edgar Lungu has commissioned the 120 Megawatts Itezhi tezhi hydro power station with a pledge to lead the country especially rural areas out of the current power deficit into a bright future.

Speaking during the commissioning of the power station in Itezhi tezhi today, President Edgar Lungu says Zambia has several key projects that can help the country get out of the electricity situation it is currently facing.

He says much as the electricity challenge the country is experiencing is not the making of the PF nor his fault, government remains committed to ensure electricity is easily accessible by all Zambians.

President Lungu has since directed Energy Minister Dora Siliya to do more and expedite all the outstanding power projects so that current loadshedding the country is facing can significantly reduce.

Speaking earlier, Energy Minister Dora Siliya says Zambia like any other country is facing a power deficit and thus projects such as the Itezhi tezhi hydro power project will make a difference in the country’s power capacity in the country.

Ms. Siliya has also disclosed that ZESCO will on 15th March be signing power purchase agreements with companies that have expressed interest in investing in solar energy.

And ZESCO Managing director Victor Mudende says the Itezhi tezhi power station will help increase the capacity of power generation in the country.
