Police in Lusaka have arrested and detained UPND Vice President for Administration Geoffrey Mwamba for unlawful drilling contrary to section 66 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr. Mwamba, who arrived at Woodlands Police Station at 09:45hrs, accompanied by UPND President Hakainde Hichilema and other senior party officials was arrested after being interrogated for over 2 hours in the presence of eight lawyers led by Jack Mwiimbu.

Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda has confirmed the development to journalists that Mr. Mwamba has been arrested and denied Police bond which she says is the discretion of the Police.

And briefing journalists, Mr. Mwamba’s Lawyer Jack Mwiimbu says the lawyers will ensure that Mr. Mwamba appears in court soon so that he can be granted bail.

Meanwhile, UPND President Hakainde Hichilema says he is aware that President Edgar Lungu wants to declare a state of emergency to avoid an election.

Mr. Hichilema says he is aware of the ploy by the PF Government to arrest all senior UPND members.
