CSPR welcomes abolishment of Deputy Minister position

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) has welcomed the abolishment of deputy minister positions because the current size cabinet is blotted and taking up a large chunk of public funds.

CSPR Communications and Information Officer Maxson Nkhoma reducing the Size of Cabinet by having an optimal and stable number of ministers by abolishing the positions of Deputy Minister has therefore been long overdue.

Mr. Nkhoma says the current economic challenges which the country is going through, calls for magnanimity amongst various political players and demands for hard political decision which can help this Country save resources.

Mr. Nkhoma has also called for the abolishment of the position of District Commissioners as this position will no longer have any value in light of the new constitution which provides for the election of the Executive mayor who will be elected by the people in the entire district.

He says Government should therefore engage other stakeholders in abolishing the position of the District Commissioner subject to parliamentary approval.
