NCC suspends works on upgrading Centres to District Hospitals in Lusaka

National Council for Construction (NCC) has with immediate effect suspended construction works for Shimizu Corporation together with Velos Enterprises Limited and Swissco Building and Painting Contractors for operating without valid NCC Registration.

Shimizu Corporation is the contractor engaged to facilitate works on upgrading of Lusaka Health Centres to District Hospitals in Lusaka Province.

NCC Public Relations Officer Chama Mwansa tells QFM News in a statement that this is against a background that Shimizu Corporation requested to be deregistered as a contractor on 10th December 2015 and this was effected on 18th December 2015.

Ms Mwansa says while carrying out routine inspections on 22nd February 2016 NCC Staff discovered Shimizu Corporation carrying out construction works contrary to their request and in contravention of Regulation 1 (1), (2) of Statutory Instrument No. 119 of 2008 under the National Council for Construction, Act No. 13 of 2003.

She says the company went ahead to sub-contract two contractors namely Velos Enterprises Limited and Swissco Building and Painting Contractors who also do not have valid NCC Registration.

She adds that this was a breach of section 22(1) of the National Council for Construction, Act No. 13 of 2003 which states that:

Ms Mwansa says in view of the above NCC has since suspended all construction works for the three contractors until further notice.
