The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) has recorded a drop in the number of inspections conducted on imported products for compliance to standards at the points of entry by the end of 2015.

The drop is attributed to the reduction in the volume of imports that entered into the country especially during the last quarter of 2015.

ZABS Marketing and Public Relations Manager Hazel Zulu says a total of 2,476 assorted products were inspected by the Bureau through various borders in the last three months of 2015 while the same period of 2014 recorded a total of 3,731 products.

Ms Zulu says these products include fertilizer, chemical products, rubber products and textile materials.

She says others are construction materials and food items including used motor vehicles.

She adds that in 2015, Livingstone recorded the highest number of inspected imported products at 388 in December, while in 2014; Nakonde recorded the highest number of inspected imports at 799 in December 2014.
