The Zambia National Women’s Lobby (ZNWL) has welcomed President Edgar Lungu’s decision to pick a woman to be his running mate in the August 11th General Elections.

ZNWL Board Chairperson Beauty Katebe says the bold decision made by the President is yet another milestone in women’s ascendance to leadership positions in Zambia as it will consolidate the gains made in women’s attainment of top tier leadership.

Ms. Katebe notes that the appointment of a female running mate will also improve the acceptance of women in high leadership positions thereby paving the way for more women to attain even higher levels of leadership.

She has thus thanked his President Lungu for the landmark decision and for continuing to lead by example in the cause for gender equality at decision making level in Zambia.

Ms. Phiri further states that they are also pleased that the Patriotic Front party has pledged to reserve 40 percent of all electable positions for female candidates stressing that It is their hope that female politicians in the Patriotic Front will take advantage of this opportunity.

Meanwhile, a senior District Patriotic Front Official in Mbala has welcomed President Lungu’s intentions to adopt a woman as running mate in this year general election.

Pf District Chairperson Matildah Lungu says the appointment of woman in superior position will accelerate the development in all sectors in the country.

She says the appointment of woman as running mate will demonstrate that President Lungu want to lead the country on inclusiveness and not on tribal lines.
