The European Union (EU) has given Zambia a grant of over four million Euros for the implementation of power interconnector project with Kenya and Tanzania.

Energy and Water Development Deputy Minister Charles Zulu says the three country power interconnector project is being funded by the European Union with the help of Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA).

Speaking on arrival at Bole International airport, ahead of the ninth infrastructure Ministers meeting to be held in Ethiopia, Mr. Zulu says the interconnector project will help ease power deficit in the region once completed.

He says the 4.4 million Euros grant will enable Zambia start exporting power to East Africa and other neighboring countries once the power deficit challenges were overcome in the country.

He says Zambia will soon start generating enough power which will result in energy exports.

And Mr. Zulu says Zambia has contracted two international companies to start inland power generation.

He says the two companies who are from the United States of America and Turkey will also supply equipment for inland power generation.

He adds that the move will help solve the power deficit problem that Zambia is currently facing.

This is contained in a statement made available to QFM News by Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia First Secretary Naomi Chulu.
