Power Dynamos beat Zesco United on penalties at the Nkoloma Stadium on Saturday to book their spot in the final of the 2016 Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu Charity Shield against Green Buffaloes on March 9.

Zesco United took the lead on 53 minutes through Idriss Mbombo, who broke on the left flank beating Francis Kasonde and Billy Mutale for pace before firing past Joshua Titima at the near post from an acute angle.

However, Conlyde Luchanga equalised in the 82nd minute after beating the offside trap from a Benson Sakala pass.

There were no further goals until the final whistle, so the game went to a penalty shootout.

Power Dynamos converted their spot kicks through Kelvin Mubanga, Govenda Simwala, Julius Situmbeko and Francis Kasonde while Larry Bwalya blasted his effort over the bar.

Joshua Titima, in goal for Power Dynamos, saved two penalties by Idriss Mbombo and Misheck Chaila while Ben Adama Bahn and Ayo Oluwafemi were clinical with their efforts for Zesco United.

Power Dynamos coach Tenant Chilumba said his team had improved and was aiming for silverware in the 2016 season.

“Both teams struggled in the second half but we had better endurance because we have younger players. This season we have a lot of younger players who are still gelling and are perhaps 75 percent fit. Our aim is to win the Charity Shield and the league,” said Chilumba.

Chilumba added that he expected a tough final against Green Buffaloes, emphasising that his players’ fitness levels will be key to a good performance.

“I believe that we are still in pre-season and we need to work on fitness. I watched Green Buffaloes against Zanaco so I think we need to work on fitness; that is why I think it will be a tough match.”

Power Dynamos will play Green Buffaloes in the final scheduled for March 9.
