Energy Permanent Secretary Brigadier General Emeldah Chola

Government has called for partnership with stakeholders in developing human capital in order to address challenges the country is facing in the energy sector.

Speaking during the hand-over of a mini power substation to the University of Zambia (UNZA) school of engineering built by the Copperbelt Energy Corporation CEC) today, Energy Permanent Secretary Brigadier General Emeldah Chola says government is keen on improving the skills of the students in order to respond positively to the energy crisis the country is facing.

General Chola says the energy sector remains the key driver of the country’s economy and thus the need to adequately deal with challenges arising in the sector.

She says the investment by CEC in the first ever mini power substation for education purposes will go a long way in improving the education sector.

Speaking earlier, CEC Executive Board Chairman Hanson Sindowe says CEC is proud to contribute to improving the quality of education in the field of engineering.

Mr. Sindowe says the 66KV project which cost US$2, 560 was started in 2010 and was completed in November 2015.

And Ministry of Higher Education Director of Planning, David Ndopu has noted the need for stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the skills of students in the country.
