Health Minister Joseph Kasonde says all health institutions in the country have been put on alert following the outbreak of cholera in Lusaka and Chibombo districts.

And Dr. Kasonde says Lusaka has of 15th February recorded 30 suspected Cholera cases with fourteen being confirmed by laboratory examination.

Dr. Kasonde told Parliament in a ministerial statement that the cholera outbreak started in Kanyama compound with the first case being of child of 18 months who died at home before being taken to Kanyama health centre.

He adds that the first four confirmed cases of cholera were members of the same family, who reported at Kanyama health centre on 7th February, 2016.

Dr. Kasonde says so far five cases of cholera are under treatment at Kanyama health centre.

The Health Minister has also revealed that Chibombo district has of 15th February reported eight suspected cases of cholera with two cases being confirmed.

He says the index case in Chibombo was a patient from Kanyama who had visited relatives in Chibombo.
