Zambians for Empowerment and Development (ZED) President Fredrick Mutesa says political parties should not go into alliances for the sole purpose of winning the elections.

Dr. Mutesa says political party alliances are supposed to be about a minimum program of shared values and principles.

He says it is these shared values and principles that should hold together the alliance during campaigns and while in government.

Dr. Mutesa states that an alliance formed on the basis of shared values and principles  is what his party would want to participate in.

He says an alliance formed on the basis of a marriage of convenience other than shared values and principles is bound to create problems once in government.
