The Zambia Union of Financial Institutions and Allied Workers (ZUFIAW) says the violence orchestrated by suspected UPND cadres in Bweengwa defeats the very purpose for a peaceful and prosperous nation for which freedom fighters fought for.

ZUFIAW General Secretary Chingati Msiska in a statement the political violence in Bweengwa was an act of total disregard for those people who fought for Zambia’s independence.

Mr. Msiska says the peace which Zambia is enjoying today should not be taken for granted.

He says the violence in Bweengwa is a serious risk to national security, calling for perpetrators of the violence to be brought to book.

Mr. Msiska adds that political leaders must take the lead in condemning violent conduct amongst their party cadres and ensure that their supporters do not jeopardize the country’s peace.

He states that politicians must be courageous enough to directly confront the violence and lawlessness as soon as it erupts.
