The Human Rights Commission has strongly condemned the spate of political violence that has been taking place in the past few months in the country, describing as criminal the latest incident in Bweengwa where some suspected UPND cadres blocked the road and stoned government and Police vehicles on Saturday.

Commission Chief of Information, Education and Training, Mweelwa Muleya says the Commission calls s on the police to thoroughly, impartially and expeditiously investigate all cases of political violence and bring the culprits to book to stop individuals from committing political violence with impunity.

Mr. Muleya in a statement says the Commission is deeply concerned that politically motivated violence is becoming systemic and there is imminent danger that if the trend is not stopped, the situation may worsen as the 11th August, 2016 elections draw nearer.

He says it is the Commission’s considered view that the growing political violence calls for a political solution.

Mr Muleya states that it is high time political party leaders started talking to each other rather than talking at each other.
