UPND Deputy Spokesperson Edwin Lifwekelo says the number of people who accompanied the president goes against the austerity measures he announced aimed at cutting government expenditure as well as cutting down on the number of people on foreign trips.

Mr. Lifwekelo says while the UPND appreciates the benefits that may come with the President’s trip to Europe, the money spent on the people that accompanied him could have been channeled to other needy sectors of the economy.

He says fiscal discipline is important especially at a time like this when the country has no money to waste, but serve the little it has for other important issues that would uplift the living standards of the people of Zambia.

Efforts to get a comment from Special assistant to the President for press and public relations Amos Chanda proved futile as his phone went unanswered.
