Political parties reaffirm internalizing SADC protocol on gender equality

The three major political parties the ruling PF and oppositions MMD and UPND have reaffirmed their commitment to internalizing the SADC protocol on gender equality in their respective party structures ahead of the elections.

PF Deputy Spokesperson Frank Bwalya says the ruling party is leading the way in seeing to it that Zambia attains the 50 percent representation of women in decision making positions.

Mr. Bwalya tells Qfm News that this is evident in the resolution the party has made to ensure that for each leadership position held by a male, the deputy should be a female.

MMD president Nevers Mumba says his party has already ratified the gender policy.

Dr. Mumba has told Qfm News that the commitment is that 50 percent representation of women is reached in all decision making positions of the party.

And UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma has disclosed that his party is currently receiving favorable responses from female party members who want to stand in this year’s general elections.

Mr. Kakoma says the UPND expects that come August 11th it will have more women contesting the elective positions at Parliamentary and local government levels.
