UPND commends ECZ

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma

The opposition UPND has applauded the electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) for their decision to allow political parties to verify the new voters roll and most importantly to allow independent auditors to also do the verification.

UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma says the dialogue between the ECZ and political parties should continue.

Mr. Kakoma points out that the Formation of the inter-party elections committee that was agreed upon at the 4th February consultative meeting is a step in the right direction citing that great progress has been made to lay ground for a free, fair and transparent general election.

He however notes that they are not oblivious to the difficult conditions under which the ECZ is working adding that the institution is inadequately funded.

Mr. Kakoma has further appealed to the Government to make additional resources available to the ECZ immediately.
