The ruling Patriotic Front in Kitwe District has called on the Ministry of Higher Education to consider reopening the two closed Universities.

Kitwe PF District Spokesperson Christopher Kang’ombe says his party in Kitwe has listened to the cries of the students and their concerns and the party wishes to appeal to the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Michael Kaingu to re-open both CBU and UNZA as soon as possible.

Mr. Kang’ombe, who is also the area Councillor for Riverside Ward, has told QFM News that he has interacted with current and former students and that their appeal is for government to re-open the universities.

Mr. Kang’ombe, who is also former Copperbelt University Students Union (COBUSU) President, has also urged the Minister and the bursaries committee in particular to source for money for the remaining 30 days at the rate of K22.5 per day for meal allowance in advance.

He says he understands that last week government released an initial K1, 328 for meal allowances which cater for the first 59 days of the term and as they appeal for re-opening, it is the party’s view that all logistical issues can be sorted out.
