Operations Young Vote (OYV) says the PF government especially under the current regime has been very cosmetic in dealing with the welfare of the students in all institutions of higher learning and particularly the University of Zambia (UNZA) and the Copperbelt University (CBU).

OYV Executive Director Guess Nyirenda says while OYV does not subscribe to the riotous behavior by the students to air their grievances they have realized that the attitude by the government to pay very little attention to the plight of the students is the cause of riots and unruly behavior by students.

Mr. Nyirenda the closure of the two universities, CBU and UNZA, is not only an affront to undermine education in but also a clear indication of lack of appreciation of the link between education and development.

He adds that What the PF government is simply doing by closing the poor Zambians’ universities is creating a backlog of the youth finishing secondary school and failing to access university education on time because of shifts in dates and academic calendars for completion and graduating.

He has since appealed to the conscience of the leaders in government to immediately reopen the two universities without any further delay and has further demanded that students be give what is due to them.
