Kasempa District has been hit by fuel storage and that it is now four days that the district has had no fuel at the only filling station.

According to the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) Weekly Brief made available to QFM News, the shortage of fuel in the district has prompted local fuel vendors to hike the commodity price to K15 per litre of petrol.

A check conducted by the ZNFU yesterday at the station found some Taxi drivers buying fuel at K15 which they complained that it has made the cost of doing business high.

Meanwhile, farmers in Mpika district are delighted with the amount of rainfall the district has received so far.

A field visit conducted by the ZNFU field Officer this week revealed that most of the farmers are happy and looking forward to having a good harvest.

On the other hand, some farmers have expressed concern with the state of feeder roads particularly in Kasenga resettlement scheme, saying the roads have been damaged which will make the transportation of their produce to the markets difficult and expensive.

They have since appealed to the local authority to come to their aid by working on the road.

Mpika district has received 244.7mm of rainfall for the month of January 2016 and a cumulative total of 546.1mm of rainfall since the start of the rainy season.

The figures have been confirmed by the district metrological staff, Ruth Chitalu.

This is contained in a ZNFU Weekly Brief made available to QFM News by ZNFU Outreach and Membership Office Manager Grace Hamonzwe.
