The Opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has written to the speaker of the national assembly to find out whether parliament approved the recently contracted loan from the African Development Bank (ADB) for the rehabilitation of the Chinsali to Nakonde road.

FDD National Deputy Secretary Kaluba Simuyemba has told a media briefing in Lusaka today that the amended constitution states that parliament should approve any loan that government wants to contract.

Mr. Simuyemba says this is why the opposition political party wants to find out if parliament approved the loan citing that if not then the loan is illegal and sanctions should be taken.

He notes that the FDD have no problem with government contracting loans for the benefit of Zambia but that what is outlined in the new constitution which the president signed should be observed.

He further stresses that government is abrogating what is enshrined in the amended constitution.

Meanwhile the FDD has received defectors from the former ruling party (MMD) and the opposition UPND.
