Hiked Presidential nomination fee is discriminatory – FODEP

CHIPENZI FODEP

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has described as discriminatory the revised presidential nomination fee of K75,000 from K10,000.

FODEP Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi has since charged that this year’s elections will be a millionaires’ game.

He laments that the country’s electoral process is increasingly becoming discriminatory.

Mr. Chipenzi states that only smaller percentage of those who literate and rich will be able to contest elections.

Yesterday the Electoral Commission of Zambia announced the revised presidential nomination fee from K10, 000 to K75, 000.

The parliamentary candidates will now be required to pay K10, 000 from K500 in form of nomination fees, while councilors in urban areas will now pay K2, 000 with those in rural areas parting away with K1,500.
