Former Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Bob Sichinga has rejoined the opposition UPND after quitting the ruling Patriotic Front.

Mr. Sichinga who previously served as UPND founding leader Anderson Mazoka’s vice president announced his move at a media briefing in Lusaka today.

He says he has decided to rejoin the UPND because of the suffering the people of Zambia are going through.

Mr. Sichinga says he is confident that the UPND is the only political party in Zambia capable of reviving Zambia’s economy.

And UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has demanded that the two closed universities be reopened with immediate effect so as not to disturb the academic calendar.

Speaking when he welcomed Mr. Sichinga to the UPND, Mr Hichilema says government should not run away from its responsibility of taking care of the students by paying them their allowances.

He has also dismissed accusation that he is the one enticing the students to riot.
