Numba bids striker Phiri farewell

Zanaco coach Numamba Numba says they will miss striker Moses Phiri but wished him the best of luck following his recent move to Portugal.

Phiri has joined Portuguese third tier club Moura Atletico Clube on a short term loan deal that will see the 22-year-old striker miss Zanaco’s 2016 Confederation Cup campaign when the Lusaka club enters the competition in March after enjoying a preliminary stage bye.

“We will miss him because he was an important member of the team,” Numba said.

“Otherwise it is a good thing for him and his family because every player wants to play abroad.

“We have already replacements for his position who can deliver the way Moses used to do.”

Zanaco have already signed striker Fashion Sakala from Nchanga Rangers and winger Seith Sakala from Napsa Stars who have shown some promise in pre-season where they have scored one goal each in two matches at the ongoing four club international tournament that ends on February 3 in Ndola.

Phiri was Zanaco’s top scorer last season after netting 10 competitive goals, nine of those came in the league to help The Bankers finish second in the 2015 Faz Super League campaign, four points behind Zesco United who retained their title.
