The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has cautioned government against rushing the implementation of the revised electricity tariffs for the mining industry.

JCTR Executive Director Leonard Chiti says government should be mindful of the prevailing situation in the mining industry which has been hit by low copper prices on the international market.

He notes that increasing electricity tariffs without taking into consideration the challenges facing the sector could compound the situation.

Father Chiti tells QFM that the idea of increasing electricity tariffs for the mines will only be good if the move will enhance productivity and the economic situation in the mines.
