Government has dismissed rumors of a looming fuel shortage in the country.

Energy and Water Development Permanent Secretary Brigadier General Emeldah Chola in a statement issued to QTV says to the contrary, as of today, 1st February,2016 the available national stock levels in the Government depots is 36 million litres for diesel which translates into 16 days of national consumption and 5.8 million litres for petrol translating into 5 days of national consumption.

General Chola explains that this does not include the stock that the Oil Marketing Companies have in their storage facilities.

She adds that in order to address the low levels of petrol, imports have been increased, stating that so far 6 million litres is on the way from Dar es Salaam, while 20 million litres of petrol is being loaded on urgent basis.

General Chola says this bring the total to 26 million litres of petrol which amounts to 20 days of stock for petrol.

She states that the fuel in the reserve tanks, in transit and the one being loaded is enough for national consumption, adding that Government is importing fuel as per normal schedule and Indeni refinery is producing.

She has also disclosed that the replacement of the contaminated crude feedstock that government rejected is expected in third week of February,2016.

The Energy Permanent Secretary has since appealed to all consumers to go about their normal business without any anxiety or panic as the country has enough fuel.
