The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) says it is intensifying raids on business houses in a bid to ensure they adhere to consumer standards.

CCPC Public Relations Officer Hanford Chaaba says the commission has been receiving complaints from members of the public that they are not doing anything to protect consumers in view of the escalating prices of certain commodities.

Mr. Chaaba says the commission has so far conducted dawn raids on milling companies and bakeries to ascertain the high prices of mealie meal and bread.

He says the commission remains committed to ensuring that consumers are provided with the best services.

Meanwhile, Mr. Chaaba has disclosed has told QFM News that the commission is pleased with the efforts by Chiefs across the country in educating their subjects on consumer protection.

He says the consumer school clubs have also helped in reaching out to pupils and equipping them with knowledge on consumer protection.
