President Edgar Lungu has described as positive turning point the acceptance of Zambia’s offer to host the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) secretariat in Lusaka.

President Lungu says the turning point will be in the unfolding tapestry of Africa’s rich and positive history.

He has acknowledged the efforts of the AU Commission (AUC) chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma and her team for the role they played throughout the consultative stages leading to this decision.

President Lungu states that this positive response from the AU membership is a clear manifestation of the trust and confidence member Heads of States have in the people of Zambia.

He notes that this decision further epitomizes the pan-African spirit that unites the continent as one.

President Lungu has since made an assurance that the Zambian government will continue to work closely with the AUC to conclude the mandatory processes necessary to ensure an efficient and smooth transfer of the ECOSOCC secretariat to Lusaka.

He was speaking in Addis Ababa Ethiopia today during the 26th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) on Zambia’s bid to host the ECOSOCC secretariat of the AU in Lusaka.

President Edgar Lungu has since arrived back from Ethiopia.
