Lungu urged to sack controlling officers cited in 2014 AG report

Transparent International Zambia (TIZ) has recommended that President Edgar Lungu fires all controlling officers cited in the 2014 Auditor General’s report.

The organization has observed that the increase in the amount of public funds being abused is a manifestation of the carelessness and irresponsibility of controlling officers.

TIZ President Lee Habasonda notes that Zambia seems not to be making headways in dealing with this huge challenge of prudently using public funds.

He says the country’s economy is not doing well, and that it is things such as the abuse of public funds that are making it even worse, hence the need for government to act on such cases.

Mr. Habasonda says this is considering that past experience shows that the country has a tendency of shelving cases cited in the various audit reports.
