Arrest masquerading Chief – Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has directed Eastern Province Police Commissioner Alex Chilufya to arrest Friday Mwale, the man masquerading as Chief Tindi of the Kunda speaking people in Mambwe district.

The Tindi chiefdom was abolished by the colonial masters, but Mr. Mwale has allegedly continued to perform functions of a Chief, despite having been convicted over the same offence.

President Lungu says the man is breaking the law with impunity therefore the law should visit him, as no one is above the law including himself.EDGAR CL

This came to light when President Lungu met four chiefs from Mambwe district namely senior Chief Nsefu, Chief Malama, Msoro and Kakumbi.

And Eastern province Police Commissioner Alex Chilufya says he will implement the presidential directive to its logical conclusion.
And President Lungu has regretted the delay in selecting the next Chief Jumbe.

The late Chief Jumbe, whose names are Robert Zulu, died last year after an illness.

Mr. Lungu says government will not interfere in the succession of chiefs, but will work with whoever ascends to the throne with approval from the family lineage or clan.

Meanwhile, President Lungu says Government through the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs will revisit the issue surrounding the construction of chiefs’ palaces across the country.

The Head of State has assured Chiefs in the country that government is committed to addressing and improving their welfare.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the others Chiefs, Chief Msoro appealed to the government to provide Chiefs with transport to ease their mobility.

The traditional leader further appealed to the government to consider increasing Chiefs subsidies which he said are very low.

The four chiefs also commended President Lungu for assenting to the constitution amendment bill.
