Police in Mbala have arrested a 34 year old woman of Kowa village in Chief Fwambo’s area for attempting to bury alive her newborn baby girl.
Police have told ZANIS in Mbala that Mercy Nauluta gave birth to a baby girl and attempted to bury her, but quick action by members of the community saved the baby when they heard her crying in a shallow grave.
Police sources said village headman Kowa reported the matter which happened yesterday and Nauluta was arrested and is currently in police custody awaiting court appearance.
The baby is being kept at Mbala General Hospital and is in good health condition.
