Tribalism a threat to peace- Lungu

President Edgar Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has warned that the country risks losing the peace it has enjoyed since independence if the issue of tribalism is not addressed.

Speaking when he met six traditional leaders in Petauke district today, MR. Lungu says he would not preach against tribalism in Lusaka when traditional leaders are not united in rooting the vice in their chiefdoms.

The President urged senior Kalindawalo, Chief Nyanje, Chief Mwanjabantu, Chief Nyamphande, Chief Mumbi, and Chief Sandwe to foster peace and unity among their subjects regardless of their political affiliates.

And president Lungu says government will not allow Zambians to starve.

And President Lungu says an educated workforce will help Zambia compete globally and improve the country’s economy.

Speaking when he addressed pupils at Nyamphande boarding school in Petauke, President Lungu encouraged the pupils to stay in school, study hard and take responsibility for their education.

He says government on its part will do its best to make sure that the education system is improved in the country.

President Lungu, who is on a three days tour of Eastern province, says government is committed to providing affordable and accessible education for every citizen.

He also reminded teachers of their responsibility to prepare pupils for classroom success.
