RTSA extends deadline for road tax

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has offered motorists an extension of 14 days for the payment of road tax, road service licenses and identity certificates effective 1st February to 14th February, 2016.

Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko says this is in accordance with the government directive.

Mr. Soko explains that thRTSA Bosse development has been necessitated to allow government to finalize the revocation of Statutory Instrument number 41 of 2015 on road user fines and fees.

He stresses that all motorists and PSV operators have since been given up to the 14th of February 2016 to pay for the required licenses including the Statutory Instrument number 33 on the mandatory display of insurance and security discs on motor vehicles.

And Mr. Soko has disclosed that the RTSA is expected to launch a new system called the electronic Zambia Transport Information System (e-ZAMTIS) before the end of first quarter of 2016 to enhance its operations.

He says the e-ZAMTIS will operate as a decentralized system enabling services to be accessed quicker by members of the public in their respective provinces and districts.

Mr. Soko says e-ZAMTIS will be interfaced with different e-payment methods such as mobile money and others.

He adds that the system will be used as a tool to enhance productivity and effective administration of road transport in the country including road safety.
