Immigration Dept collects K200m in revenues

The Immigration Department says it collected K200 million in government revenues using the e-government initiative by the end of 2015.

Immigration Department Director General Moola Milomo says the K200 million which is a collection from payments and Visa issuances is K15 million more than its target in 2015.

Mr. Milomo says the Department was tasked by the Ministry of Finance to collect at least K185 million in 2015 in government revenues.

He says with the e-government initiative, the Department is optimistic that will do even better this year.

Mr. Milomo was speaking this morning when office of the President Center of Excellence for E-government and ICT National Coordinator Felix Phiri and his entourage toured the E-Visa facilities at the Immigration Department Head Office in Lusaka.

And Dr. Phiri said his visit to the Immigration Department headquarters was necessitated by the need for government to diligently serve its citizens through the introduction of electronic services.

He says this is in a bid to attain a smart Zambia using ICT as an enabler.

Dr. Phiri reiterated the premium that government has placed on e-government as a strategy vehicle for achieving economic and national development.
