Maize stocks to last up to June – Lungu

President Edgar Lungu says the country only has maize stocks to last up June this year.

He says this means the country will be compelled to import maize from other countries.

Speaking when he met with Chiefs Monze,Chona, Hamusonde and Chieftainess Choongo in Monze district last evening, President Lungu says government plans to import maize from South America considering that there is a shortage of the commodity on the African continent.

He says the inadequate rains received during this farming season should worry all stakeholders and compel them to work together in ensuring there is sufficient food for all people.

And Chief Hamusonde, who spoke on behalf of the Chiefs appealed to the Head of State to consider adjusting upward the allowances for chiefs in the country.

He also called on government to extend the construction of Chiefs’ palaces to all chiefdoms across the country.
