President Edgar Lungu is confident he will win the August 11th presidential election in the first round of voting contrary to claims by some people that he will not win in the first round.

He says he has gained a lot of support from the people.

Speaking when he addressed a rally at Independence Stadium in Choma District this afternoon, President Lungu said he had little time to campaign during last year’s presidential by-elections and that few people knew him then.

And the Head of State has charged that the current crop of politicians in Zambia should be ashamed for trying to divide Zambians through the promotion of tribalism.

President Lungu says there is need to flash out tribalists in all political parties in Zambia who he says are a threat to the promotion of the One Zambia One nation spirit.

He adds that even in the PF there were tribalists who wanted a Bemba person to succeed late President Michael Sata but that they never succeeded.

The Head of State has also expressed disappointment at the conduct of UPND cadres who harassed PF members at Kaleya area and tore the PF materials they were wearing.

He says such behavior should be condemned by all Zambians as it does not help the nation in anyway.

Earlier, the President paid a courtesy call on Chief Macha of the Tonga speaking people at his palace in Southern Province where he reiterated his appeal to the chief to assist in identifying households that are in need of relief food.

And Chief Macha says Southern Province has not been spared by the drought that has hit most parts of the country and that the people in the province are already experiencing hunger.
