The Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) says there is urgent need for the country to secure enough food in view of the dry spell being experienced.

ZCSD Executive Director Lewis Mwape says it is obvious that the country may face a food shortage due to the poor rainfall being experienced.

He says this may result in the levels of poverty in the country increasing, thus the need to plan ahead so as to ensure there is enough food to see the country through to the next rainy season.

Mr. Mwape however, notes that this will require concerted efforts from all stakeholders as government alone cannot do everything.

He has encouraged all stakeholders to put their heads together and help the government plan so that the impact of the dry spell is not felt.

Mr. Mwape also noted the need for the country to take climate change seriously to avoid a further escalation of poverty.
