Govt to raise over US$1m from auction of Mukula

Lands Permanent Secretary Barnaby Mulenga has disclosed that Government is expecting to raise over a million dollars from the auction of the seized Mukula tree logs.

Mr. Mulenga says government has proceeded to sweep the logs that have been lying around the country for onward export to China.

He adds that most of the logs have been mopped up and sold.

Mr. Mulenga says the money that will be raised from the auctioning of the Mukula logs will be diverted to the needy sectors of the economy.

He however states that going forward; government is introducing regulations which will ensure that the way the Mukula tree is being exploited is in a sustainable manner.
