The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has challenged government to tell the nation how the US$150 million the World Bank gave the country for irrigation has been utilized.

FDD Spokesperson Antonio Mwanza has told QFM News in an interview that there is an urgent need for the government to account how this money has been used considering that the nation is in dire need of more irrigation schemes.

He says the country needs emergency irrigation projects in view of the prolonged dry spells being experienced in the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Mwanza says it is worrying that government had indicated its intention to import maize when Agriculture Minister Given Lubinda recent assured the nation that the country has enough maize stocks in the reserves.
