UPND accuses CBU vice chancellor of betraying students

The opposition UPND says it finds it unfortunate that students at Copperbelt University (CBU) have not been receiving their allowances since October last year.

The UPND has wondered how government expects students to survive such a long time without pay.

UPND CBU branch chairperson Ernest Sinyinza says his party is concerned that notwithstanding this the University vice chancellor Nelson Ngoma has decided to suspend over 80 students.

Mr. Sinyinza says what is worse is that these suspensions which include the entire COBUSU executive came after Professor Ngoma himself called for a meeting to discuss the issue of the unpaid allowances.

In a statement to Qfm News, Mr. Sinyinza notes that this is a betrayal on the part of the vice challenge especially that he had to first collect the names of the students whose allowances had not been paid.

He says his party can only conclude therefore that Professor Ngoma’s move is in fact an alleged perpetration of the PF government.

Mr. Sinyinza suggests that had the students presented their case to a competent government the situation at the University would not have escalated to such an extent.

He says a listening government that cares for its people and the plight of students at CBU would have actually met the grieving students.
